Commander Rock E. Rhode
A stylized 3D character built in Autodesk Maya that combines a military character with an ice-cream cone body and a colorful popsicle-inspired sword. The project focused on taking an original character idea from basic modeling through textures, accessories, lighting, and final presentation.
Build the character, then let the details sell the idea.
The concept mixes an ice-cream cone silhouette with military gear, including a helmet, goggles, boots, gloves, and utility belt. The colorful sword adds a playful contrast to the tougher character styling.
Start with simple forms and build the personality outward.
The early Maya stages focused on getting the cone body, head, legs, boots, arms, and major accessories into place before the finished materials were added. As the model developed, the helmet, goggles, belt, gloves, and sword gave the character more of his final identity.
Finish the model with materials, color, lighting, and attitude.
UV mapping and textures helped define the finished surfaces, especially the red-white-blue popsicle sword. The final renders show how the helmet, goggles, cone body, utility belt, gloves, and boots work together as one character.
This was my first course using Maya, so the project also became a chance to improve my comfort with the software and make stronger lighting and rendering decisions than I had in earlier 3D assignments.
A first Maya character with plenty of room to keep growing.
The project gave me hands-on experience moving a character from an original idea into a complete 3D model. It also showed me where I want to keep improving, especially character refinement, smaller details, and lighting.
